Aston Villa have boosted the left side of their defence with the signing of Chelsea left-back Ian Maatsen.
The 22-year-old who was on loan at Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund last term, was playing in a wing-back system at Sigunda Park, which shows the former Burnley loanee is versatile.
Maatsen who was a late call-up to the Netherlands’ 2024 squad due to injuries, is currently in Germany, but this deal has been able to go ahead despite this fact. Ian Maatsen is expected to sign a six-year deal for a fee in the region of £35- £40 million.
BVB did want to make the 22-year-old’s move permanent but were priced out, which allowed Villa to make their move and sign a player who was looking to join a side who will be playing Champions League football.
