After Coventry raced to Premier League promotion and sealed the League title, it’s all to play for below The Sky Blues. Four teams (Middlesbrough, Millwall, Southampton and Ipswich) are battling out to join the Midlanders in the Premier League.
Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich side drew with West Brom, which took them back into second, but Millwall are refusing to give up, as are Boro and Southampton. Considering their start to the season The Saints had, they have done amazingly well, all things considered.
Tenda Eckert’s men, who were beaten semi-finalists in this year’s FA Cup, will try all they can to secure another trip to Wembley. Just four points separate Second from fifth, so it’s clear to see the race for the second promotion spot will go right down to the wire.
Kim Hellberg’s side have been occupying the second position for several months, but are currently in a wretched run of form, until the emphatic win over The Hornets put an end to that.
With The Teesiders appearing to be the side in the worst form out of all the play-off hopefuls, there is hope for Boro. Southampton and Ipswich are due to face one another.
This is a game that, if The Tractor Boys win, will arguably see Premier League football return after one season away. The beauty of the Championship is its unpredictability. Football fans, I am sure you share my thoughts on wanting the drama to continue.
