Tennis fans of the grass court season, rejoice Wimbledon is here! Of course, the tennis calendar has the Australian Open, but there is just that bit of charm to SW19, right?

Due to the exclusive nature of Wimbledon where the spectators are members that adhere to a strict code. From my knowledge for that reason alone, I think this is what makes SW19 a bit more different.

From the British perspective, there was Henman Hill and Murray Mount and that has been something that’s always amazed me. Wimbledon fans you need to rename Murray Mount since Dan Evans and co will be representing Great Britain.

In what is a very good touch indeed, organisers will be celebrating Rodger Federer’s eight Wimbledon titles with a ceremony before the start of play. Swiss legend Federer is a 20-time Grand Slam champion.

Federer alongside Rafael Nadal had carried the sport for the last decade. In recent times Novak Djokovic alongside the new generation of talent have been trying to carry the sport in this decade and beyond that.

Novak at 36, will arguably be in a similar position to Nadal and be considering retirement soon. Players such as Daniel Medvedev and Carlos Alcaraz have given tennis fans a glimpse into the future.

Russian Medvedev was a former world number one and Alcaraz before losing to Djokovic in the French Open was world number one. Spanish youngster Alcaraz did win the Queen’s Club event to reclaim the number one ranking and again will be one of the players to beat.

Carlos Alcaraz has enjoyed success on clay but has shown he is capable of producing on grass. Winning the pre-Wimbledon tournament I see it as, isn’t necessarily a guarantee of Wimbledon success, but last year Matteo Berrettini did get to a Wimbledon final when he won at Queen’s.

In terms of today’s action, Cam Norrie and Andy Murray will be in action. Scotsman Murray who is a three-time Grand Slam winner, it’s impressive in itself that he’s competing in Wimbledon at all.

The team here at the-sports-buff.com think that Novak Djokovic will be champion again, but don’t count out Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz. Wimbledon which started yesterday (3rd July) will be concluding on 16th June.
