The second tier of English football, at no surprise, ended with plenty of drama as certain teams were secure and confirm promotion or play-offs in the Championship.
All the final games of the season kicked off midday on Saturday, making the league the sole focus for football fans.
Ipswich Town defeated Queens Park Rangers 3-0 at Portman Road to finish second and gain automatic promotion back to the Premier League, the third promotion in four years for Kieran McKenna’s Tractor Boys.
Despite Femi Azeez bagging a brace in a 2-0 victory against the relegated Oxford United, Millwall missed out on the top two, but still ended their impressive season in third place as they prepare for the play-offs.
Remarkably, Sheffield Wednesday ended their season with a 2-1 win over West Brom as The Owls finished on zero points, claiming just two triumphs in their entire season.
Stephy Mavididi’s only goal gave Leicester City a 1-0 win over Blackburn Rovers which will hurt for The Foxes in some way due to already suffering relegation.
Ellis Simms certainly enjoyed Coventry City’s last Championship game before heading to the Premier League as the striker scored a hat-trick in a 4-0 thrashing away to Watford.
Birmingham City ended their season with a finish in the top 10 after drawing 1-1 with Portsmouth at Fratton Park.
The play-offs were an eye-catching watch as Derby County failed to keep their lead for a chance in the top six, losing 2-1 to Sheffield United.
Wrexham dropped out of the play-offs on the final day after drawing 2-2 with promotion-chasing Middlesbrough as it was heartbreak for Phil Parkinson’s side.
Hull City ended their six-game winless run to finish in the play-offs with a 2-1 victory over Norwich City as Oli McBurnie scored a brace to continue The Tigers’ gob-smacking season.
Southampton managed to finish fourth in the Championship, following their 3-1 win away to Preston North End as The Saints have yet to be beaten since the middle of January.
Adam Idah scored two goals in Swansea City’s 3-1 win against Charlton Athletic as the Swans finished in the top-half of the table.
Bristol City also achieved the same as Delano Burgzorg and Sam Bell’s goals gave The Robins a 2-0 win over Stoke City.
With Coventry and Ipswich promoted, it just leaves the play-offs to decide who will be the final team to gain promotion to the top-flight.
Millwall will take on Hull and Southampton will go head-to-head with Middlesbrough in the play-off semi-finals.
