Sheffield sharpen their blades

After a two-year absence, Sheffield United are back in the Premier League after being West Brom 2-0 last night. In a game that Paul Heckingbottom’s side were second best in, in parts, two second-half goals killed the contest.

The Blades broke the deadlock through Sande Berge’s 58th-minute strike and Anel Ahmedhodzic’s goal in the 76th minute. Going into the game Sheffield United needed three points from their remaining four games, but last night’s win confirms their promotion.

As for West Brom and Carlos Carberran, this defeat leaves them outside the play-offs as they trail sixth place Sunderland by two points.
With The Baggies needing to face Norwich and Swansea in their final two matches, it appears that Tony Mowbray’s side will not be caught by West Brom for the sixth and final play-off spot.

Considering how West Brom started the season, to be in playoff contention is an achievement in itself, but falling short at this stage will no doubt be a tough pill to swallow.

Next up for cash-strapped Sheffield United is for them to try and have a sustained push to stay in the Premier League and to sort out their ownership issues.

For a team as historic as The Blades, the Premier League is where they belong.
