Yesterday, the narrative in the match between Portugal and Uzbekistan was that Ronaldo, the captain of the Iberian side, was under fire and past his sell-by date. I should tell you, I tell dad jokes too.

Every corner of the globe (yes, exaggeration, but to a point true) was calling for CR7 to be dropped, saying he’s too old and he’s past it. The great man responded in style and became the only man to score in six World Cups.

As he’s not in the top bracket of goal scorers, that’s somehow a failure. Before Ronaldo came, Portugal (sorry, guys) was a team that some might say is mediocre. Since the 41-year-old has been there, he’s lifted the nation’s expectations and carried them on his back.

For two decades, I must add. As I have previously stated, the more creative outlet players in the team need to supply Cristiano with service. CR7’S two goals came from a Bruno Fernandes assist and a Joao Cancelo assist.

These two players, alongside Vitinha, will be crucial for Portugal. This tired rhetoric that he doesn’t get involved doesn’t wash now. The legendary former Real Madrid player is no longer a marauding winger.

It’s funny when it comes to CR7. He doesn’t get involved or track back; people lose their minds, but Messrs Mbappe and Messi haven’t been doing that for years. Is it a coincidence, now that both have left, PSG are thriving all over the pitch and as an overall unit?

I will end my point with this: what do they say about GOATs? Feed them, and they will score!
