Defending La Liga champions Barcelona responded to Real Madrid’s opening-day win with an emphatic 5-0 win over Elche. Barca captain Raphinha and Fermin Lopez both scored twice, with new signing Karim Adeyemi grabbing the other.
With the greatest respect to Elche, there will be greater tests to come for Barca this season. With new signing Rodri not featuring in this game, you can say that things are looking encouraging.
Fellow new signing Anthony Gordon impressed with two assists on his debut for the Catalan giantbs. World Cup-winning defender Pau Cubarsi was named on the bench, as he eases his way back into competitive action after Spain’s successful World Cup.
