Hello, good afternoon sports fans, it’s me Ayyaz Malik aka The Sports Buff. I hope you’re well and looking after yourselves. Ladies and gents, (especially those from the UK) life has gone back in full circle.
Weather wise, after three or four days of intense weather, where temperatures were more than Pakistani cities, things have gone back to full circle for the North of England as temperatures cool down and be a bit more bearable.
In a footballing sense, it’s not happened quite yet, but a story is developing where story of full circle can develop. This tale has Manchester City and Arsenal as the main characters. The story starts with Man City when they were taken over by their Abu Dhabi owners.
City had newly found riches and had hole burning in their pocket which they tried to extinguish with the signings of Gael Clicht, Bacary Sagna, Samir Nasri and Emanuel Adebayor.
If you haven’t noticed, those four players were all ex Arsenal players and many observers saw The Blues essentially creating a second Arsenal XI. But o how times have changed and life is essentially have gone half circle.
I say this because in this years transfer window, Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus and Oleksander Zinchenko have both swapped The Etihad for The Emirates. In years gone by there was talk that new Chelsea signing Raheem Sterling was set to join The Gunners too, but of course he now has joined the West London club.
More common in SerieA, Man City’s transfer outgoings have raised eyebrows in my opinion, and they have not been the best deals either. I offer more detailed thoughts here:https://the-sports-buff.com/2022/07/19/why-city-have-lost-the-transfer-window/
One thing that can be said of Arsenal buying several of Manchester City’s players and being interested in their other players is a testament to the quality of players that City are bringing in.
The sign of a good team, is to have players in your team that other clubs want, for example Bernado Silva has been tracked by Barcelona for many years. So Julian Alvarez, Kalvin Philips or Erling Haaland, when or if they get sold by Manchester City might go to Arsenal?
