Real Madrid have been crowned La Liga champions for a record-extending 36th time after beating all but relegated Cadiz 3-0.
Real needed four points from their remaining games, but with Barcelona losing to their Catalan rivals Girona 4-2, who have completed a double of them, this made mathematically sure Carlo Ancelotti’s men can’t be caught at the top of the La Liga table.
It’s been an impressive title win, considering that key defenders David Alaba and Eder Militao have been some of the high-profile players to have not been available for Los Blancos this season.
On top of that Real Madrid has been without inspirational goal-keeper Thibaut Courtois for the majority of the season. Just like at the back, Real have found players who have performed admirably to help compensate for the big losses.
Former Chelsea player Antonio Rudiger who, by his standards will admit he had a tough season at the Bernabeu last term, this year has been outstanding. In the Champions League, for example, the German kept Manchester City’s Elring Haaland quiet over both legs. How many defenders can say that?
With Real Madrid, it’s well-known how well-stacked they are in midfield, but credit still must go to boss Carlo Ancelotti as to how he has managed to get the combination correct.
Last year Fede Valverde impressed with a good goal-scoring season from midfield, but due to the summer signing of England international Jude Bellingham has seen his role in the team change.
Valverde this term has been playing in a deeper role, to allow Bellingham to play at the top of a midfield diamond. It’s worked to great effect as the former Borussia Dortmund midfielder is the club’s top scorer and earlier in the season broke all kinds of scoring records.
What has been a good season could be a great season by June 1st, which is when the Champions League final will be played. The final will be played at Wembley, where they hope they can overcome Bayern Munich in the second leg of the semi-final first.
