Luton Town defender and club captain Tom Lockyer has been given the all-clear after receiving heart surgery, after collapsing on the pitch in the eighth minute of the game during the play-off final win against Coventry City.

The 28-year-old Wales defender had an atrial fibrillation, a condition described by the NHS as causing “an irregular and often abnormally fast heart rate”.

Lockyer has said he is “thankful” to his teammates after they went on to secure promotion to the Premier League with a penalty shootout victory against The Sky Blues.

The Luton defender also said in his first interview he was very ’emotional’ when told by club physio Chris Phillips he had to come off. For Tom Lockyer and his family, it’s very good news to hear his surgery went well and he’s now in a situation where he can make a full recovery.
