Bournemouth and West Ham stand tall

Whereas every club around them has opted for a change of management as the season comes to a close, Bournemouth to their credit opted against the change of manager.

For those who want to perk up and point out the dismissal of Scott Parker earlier in the season, that doesn’t count. The former Fulham boss was sacked in the aftermath of a 9-0 defeat yes, but also in the aftermath of speaking badly against the club’s owners.

Football is a funny old game sometimes as Parker spoke badly about former owner Maxim Denim, which lead to his dismissal, but when Scott Parker went so did the previous owners.

In came new ownership where American actor Michael B Jordan is involved and in came new manager Garry O’Neil. To his credit, the former Boro boss has taken to his work at the Vitality Stadium admirably, even if results haven’t always matched the performances.

Despite those good performances, it appeared that The Cherries could be getting dragged into a relegation dogfight, but with a significant January transfer spending spree under their belt, Bournemouth have pulled clear at the right time.

It would have been so easy to have sacked Gary O’Neil when things weren’t going their way earlier in the season, which is something that Leeds have done.

But to the new Bournemouth owners’ credit, they stuck by their manager and are now reaping the rewards. Another club that has stuck by their manager was West Ham.

The Hammers who tragically lost one of their owners David Sullivan to cancer earlier in the season, have been able to keep stability on the football side of things, despite such a devastating loss off the pitch.

In the case of West Ham and Gary O’Neil’s Bournemouth, sometimes a bit of loyalty can go a long way. Premier League chairman take note.
