When it’s two teams playing against each other at the bottom of the table, the match is known as a relegation six-pointer. Maybe the top of the table clash between Arsenal and Manchester City is a championship six-pointer?
Well, The Gunners who have enjoyed a superb season so far, have just had a mini stutter in the last two games. Arsenal first lost to a dogged Everton side and were then undone by a controversial Ivan Toney equaliser.
Man City who will travel to North London, are six points behind the leaders, but they too haven’t been in great form. City’s slump started a little before the winter World Cup, but a morale-boosting 3-1 win over Aston Villa restored some confidence.
Pep Guardiola’s men will also be able to call upon talisman Erling Haaland, who was considered a doubt for this one. The Norwegian, despite all of his goals, has zero goals to show against the other traditional top six members, away from home.
Haaland will no doubt want to correct such a stat. Man City will need their number nine in top form as they look to beat a side that’s lost just twice all season.
Ruben Diaz played in the Villa game over the weekend and will no doubt be crucial for the visitors in this one. Man City’s full-backs will need to be on their game too, to nullify the threat of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.
As for Arsenal, they have Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus still out injured, but his understudy Eddie Nketiah has filled in for him admirably. Mohammed El Neny is also out long term.
This could see manager Mikel Arteta name the same side for the seventh consecutive league game. In terms of the match itself, I see this ending up as a draw, 1-1. But I won’t be surprised if City nick a goal against the run of play.
