It’s happened so many times in the past and now history, just maybe is repeating itself. An old manager struggles for many reasons, but as soon as the new manager comes in, those players suddenly turn into world-beaters.
At the bottom of the table, there appear to be many teams this applies to. Wolves under Europe League winning manager Julian Lapotegui is one example.
The former Real Madrid manager has steadily seen an improvement in results, with the 3-0 win over Liverpool being the highlight. Some new signings have been made, but since the Spaniard joined the club as manager, a degree of the gloom has been lifted over Molineux.
Wolves are still in a desperate position in the league, the relegation zone, but the West Midlanders would have drawn some inspiration from recent performances and results.
Two wins from five is something to go off, at least it’s not zero wins, which is what can be said of Leeds United. Wolves have 20 points and in what’s a congested bottom half of the table, wins of any kind are golden.
Yes, it’s one game, but Everton seems very close to a revival. It’s the vibe I am getting and the fact they did beat the league leaders Arsenal of course. Just Liverpool next, a nice welcome for new manager Sean Dyche.
Three examples of revivals in the Championship are that of Vincent Kompany. The Clarets have taken to the former City defenders method’s very well. Another example is Carlos Carberran of West Brom.
The Baggies are now fifth! my final example is that of Norwich manager David Wagner. Wagner was of course manager of Championship rivals Huddersfield, who he got promoted to the Premier League against all odds.
Although too late this season it appears, David Wagner’s appointment has brought some respectability to their season after a difficult campaign.
Getting a new manager isn’t always guaranteed improvements in performance. Chelsea have had a difficult start to life under Graham Potter as has Southampton under Nathan Jones.
So there is our look at managers who have overseen revivals at their teams, but do you agree with our picks?
