The day we dreaded?

After rebuttals, it’s been confirmed that former Manchester United Cristiano Ronaldo will be joining Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr.
The former Real Madrid has signed a deal with the nine-time Arabian champions till 2025. In a move that many see as the last in Ronaldo’s glittering career, football can’t help but feel a sense of sadness.

Sadness in the sense of such a great player ending his career in such a way. After leaving Manchester United, the noises from Ronaldo’s camp were that he wanted to leave for a Champions League club.

Al Nassr, I believe are a Champions League club, but in the Middle East. Cristiano didn’t move to a European champions league club, which in several TV interviews the man himself was adamant he was going to go out on top.

In CR7’s most controversial interview which he did with Piers Morgan, although parts of it came from a good place, some parts would have upset some potential buyers.

The world is a politically correct place and so is football too. Whenever a manager says he’s not happy with the lack of investment in his team, more times than not he’s shown the door, or he ‘leaves by mutual consent’.

Here the team at the-sports-buff is sad, but at the same time, we acknowledge nothing lasts forever. CR7 as great of a player as he is, time waits for no one.

Much has been made of his bumper contract that he will be getting in Saudi, but doesn’t he deserve it? This is the same Ronaldo you cheered for fans of football.

This is the same Ronaldo, which helped Messi up his game. Yes, Messi was good, but when Ronaldo was in La Liga with him, Lionel Messi was a different animal.

Team accolades and personal ones, he’s won them all. He has nothing left to prove on the club scene. Money isn’t a problem for CR7 either, due to his shrewdness outside of football.

Of course, it’s sad seeing you in a non-mainstream league, but all that’s left for you to do is show Vincent Abubaker how this goal-scoring thing is done.
