Manchester United take note

Manchester United fans, it’s that feeling of here we go again. From Sadio Mane to Roberto Firmino and most recently Darwin Nunez, Liverpool have signing a player when it appeared that arch-rivals United were in prime position to sign him.

Add PSV Coady Gakpo to the list after the Dutch giants’ official Twitter account that a fee between the two clubs have been agreed upon. For United, this is no doubt a real slap in the face as Gakpo was a player that they were interested in for some time.

A deal in the summer was said to be in place, but The Red Devils walked away from the deal and signed Ajax winger Anthony instead. Also what should be noted is that with United making a late splurge in the summer transfer window, their business in this window would have been limited.

From the Man United fans’ point of view, losing out to yet another player who has moved to Liverpool will be a bitter pill to swallow. The PSV Eindhoven forward had a very impressive World Cup scoring three goals for the Dutch in five World Cup games.

Maybe the fact that Gakpo hasn’t played too many games down the middle in his career, something which might not be suitable for The Red Devils as they’re looking for someone to replace the departed Cristiano Ronaldo.

The pool for world-class centre-forwards is small and with Gakpo joining Liverpool and not United, has made it go even smaller some fans may still feel. For Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, the signing of Coady Gakpo addresses key injuries in this area.

Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota will be out for some time, leaving The Reds short in the attacking third. Credit goes to Michael Edwards for pulling off such a key transfer with such minimal fuss.

Manchester United are you watching? You identify a player, speak to their club and sign him. Exhibit A, Liverpool. This is how it’s done!
