One of football’s darker days

Hello, good morning sports fans, it’s me Ayyaz Malik aka The Sports Buff. I hope you’re well looking after yourselves and are in good health. We need to talk, about football.

Here at the-sports-buff.com, we like to show and highlight the beautiful sides of football and sports. Unfortunately, in this article, we will be taking a look at the disappointing news that Brentford’s Ivan Toney has been charged with 30 more betting breaches.

This is on top of the 232 other alleged bets that the former Peterborough striker has been charged too. As sad news as this, Toney isn’t the first player to be charged with such chargers.

Current Bristol Rovers manager Joey Barton was banned from football for 18 months initially but had this reduced to 13 on appeal. Former Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge too was another one who fell foul of betting rules.
Whereas Barton, has been able to stay in football after his ban, it’s not been the case for Sturridge as the Manchester City academy graduate remains without a club.

Brentford striker Ivan Toney who said he is assisting the FA with their enquiries has until 4th January to contest the charges. If found guilty, English football will be robbed of one of its most prodigious talents.

But if found guilty, then surely this should serve as a deterrent to other footballers, if they think of falling foul of this rule.
