Why Chelsea were always going to sign Marc Cucurella

Hello, and good afternoon sports fans, it’s me Ayyaz Malik aka The Sports Buff. I hope you’re well, looking after yourselves and are in good health. Sports fans/Football fans, let’s talk football and in particular Marc Cucurella.

The former Getafe man, who supports the long shaggy hair look, something similar to side show bob, will be part of a generation of players with ‘funky hair’ shall we say.

Ray Wilkins, Ruud Gullit, Hernan Crespo and David Luiz . In the case of the former Manchester United and AC Milan midfielder Ray Wilkins, he didn’t have as much hair as the other gentleman on our list.

This Chelsea of today isn’t quite like the Daniel Passarella ideology when he managed Argentina, let’s say. The former Argentine centre-back and manager was famously obsessed with the hair lengths of players ( the 69-year old strictly instructed his players to not have their hair too long).

West London club Chelsea are a club with not such rules at all. From Ricardo Quresma’s or even Raul Meireles Mohawk’s and even Mario Melchiot’s luscious locks too, Cucurella will be part of the furniture.

It’s kind of fitting that club owner Todd Boehly, who too supports a lot more than a full head of hair shall we say, made special efforts to sign him. When David Luiz left, I was a bit worried for Chelsea on this front, but I needed not to have worried.

For me, as I write this, the topic of hair is something that’s lost on me (I am bald and yes that was a word play joke). Maybe there are other clubs, who have players who over the years have had iconic hairlines, but Chelsea just seemed to really stick out.

Long hair, short hair or even no hair, if he’s good enough, Chelsea fans would want to see him enter through the front door.

As always sports fans, is there any other examples you could think of? Let us know in the comments.
