Hi Thomas, you won’t know who I am, but my name is Ayyaz Malik, and I am the chief sports writer for The Sports Buff, a website I created whilst on holiday in the Motherland (Pakistan).

Whilst in one of the remote parts of the country, I was sitting in my dad’s house, his front lawn to be more precise.

There, I thought, as a sports writer, I would call out some of the wrongs in the football world, such as Pep, when he was the Man City boss, selling players who, on face value, shouldn’t have been sold.

Needless to say, one of the greatest managers in Premier League history was right until this season, when City weren’t able to defy my odds and win the Premier League title.

I wrote many letters of apology to him, even though he wouldn’t have read them or known I had issues with his motives or tactics in general. Where you come in, my German friend, I have doubted you too quickly as well.

In the friendlies, England didn’t look too impressive at all, and the squad you picked looked like a very crazy decision to drop Cole Palmer and Phil Foden from the World Cup squad.

Arguably, both players have had difficult seasons domestically, but it’s Palmer and Foden! Both can be genuine match-winners! That’s the thing: despite their promise, Mr Tuchel is going to do it his way; he’s only going to take on-form players to the USA, Mexico, and Canada.

Yes, it’s only one game (vs Croatia), and England might struggle to play like that all the time, but the fact that The Three Lions played like that in one game shows this side has potential.

Bravo, Thomas; this squad has real potential. This was the best I saw England play in years!

With this transfer snub, this might force The Magpies to raid their own academy and bring one of their own talents through.
