After 22 long years, Arsenal fans can say they are champions of England again, as their nearest challengers, Manchester City, could only draw 1-1 with Bournemouth. Going into the game, City were aware that they needed a win, at the very least, to keep their title hopes alive.
Some might have thought that The Cherries might have folded, but to their credit, Andoni Iraola’s side were outstanding, in particular Adrien Truffert, the French left-back, who was signed to replace the superb Milos Kerkez.
It was the Frenchman who set up one of Bouremouth’s players of the season, Eli Kroupi, to put the South Coast side in front. Bournemouth were good value for their lead and fought for every ball valiantly.
Rodri, one of Man City’s key players, was never given any time or space on the ball. The Spaniard was harried all over the pitch.
Knowing that they needed to win, Pep’s men huffed and puffed, but lacked a spark, until Erling Haaland’s late goal, but that would prove to be just an equaliser, which wasn’t enough for City to prolong the title race till the final day.
Congratulations, Arsenal, after 22 long years, their supporters will say, they are champions again. The last time they were kings of the Premier League, they did so by winning the Premier League unbeaten.
Now in 2026, after many years falling just short to Man City and Liverpool last term, they have finally crossed the line, ironically without kicking a ball on the night.
Last night’s 1-0 win over Burnley, although nervy, was enough to now in turn see them crowned champions. The football world hated the way they played, but Arsenal won’t care; they have the last laugh, because they’re champions of England for a 14th time.
