A Kai Havertz goal, towards the end of the first half, was enough to see off already relegated Burnley. Going into the game, The Gunners knew that a win would put pressure on title-challengers Manchester City, who play Bournemouth tomorrow.

Match winner Havertz was, in fact, lucky to stay on the field. The German escaped a red card after a VAR review ruled that a challenge on Lesley Ugochukwu was worthy of just a yellow, rather than red. Mikel Arteta named an attacking line-up for this must-win match.

Leandro Trossard saw his shot hit the post, and Bukayo Saka also went close. This wasn’t vintage Arsenal, but it didn’t have to be. The League leaders needed three points, and they got them.

This win sees The Arsenal go five points clear. Nearest challengers Manchester City, face Bournemouth tomorrow, now knowing that if they don’t win the game, rivals Arsenal will be crowned champions for the first time in 22 years.

If tonight does make Arsenal champions, then maybe some of the fan base who have been critical of Havertz’s performances can give the man some flowers after he scored yet another important goal.

This generation has a word for this kind of player, a clutch player. Havertz, if you did not think so before, has most certainly proved himself to be a clutch player.
