England’s batsmen collapsed to 140 all out, but are still in the game thanks to the efforts of fast bowler Ollie Robinson, who is making his first appearance in two years.

Sussex bowler Robinson (4-10) was the chief tormentor for New Zealand’s batsmen; those figures also include a triple-wicket maiden, in what was a remarkable spell of bowling.

So many times over the winter, The Three Lions were rash and careless with their shot selection, but here on day one at Lord’s, all the batsmen were trying to curb their instincts and settle in first.

Due to the behaviour of the pitch and the towering height of Kyle Jamieson, the New Zealand quick was able to trouble the English batsmen. Only Harry Brook (56) was able to offer any form of counter-attack.

Having skittled out their hosts for 140, The Black Caps self-destructed. Yes, the pitch was moving, and yes, they had to overcome the challenge of a fired-up Ollie Robinson.

At 61-6, the tourists appear to have handed the initiative back to England, but with Glen Phillips battling away on 31 not out, it could be argued that there is still some fight left in this New Zealand batting order.
