Championship leaders Coventry City’s poor 2026 continued with a 2-1 defeat to QPR. The Sky Blues, who in the early parts of the season were blowing away all that came before them, in the second half of the season appear to have hit a brick wall.
Gone are the swashbuckling performances of the start of the year, and in have come the performances of buckling under pressure. Great side before them have felt pressure, like Leeds United of a few years back.
Not intentionally to scare monger, but one season, The Lillywhites missed out on promotion due to their slump. History comes as a warning lesson to Frank Lampard’s men, but the Midlands side will be hoping it doesn’t come to that.
Loss of form happens to the best of them. The thing is, for Coventry, however, they will need to come out of the losing habit and fast. A visit from second-placed Middlesbrough is scheduled for 16th February; they will need to be ready for that because whoever wins will almost certainly win promotion.
