World number one Carlos Alcaraz strengthened his position as the best player in the world after beating one of the best ever players in the world (Novak Djokovic) in four sets, 2-6, 6,3, 7-5.
This win at the Rod Laver Arena also sees the 22-year-old Spaniard become the youngest winner of the competition, as Novak Djokovic was looking to become the oldest winner.
To his credit, the former World Number One tried to take the game to his illustrious opponent, which at one stage looked be working, but Alcaraz isn’t a champion for no reason.
After going a set down, this awoke a different kind of animal in him, and from then on in, Carlos Alcaraz was just too good for Novak. With the fourth set looking to go into a tie-break, Alcaraz was able to pluck up the grit and determination to win the set before hand.
After the match, Novak joked about facing the World Number One for 10 more years, but almost in the same breath, downplayed it too. This defeat for the Serb means that his last major title win was in 2023 and that he remains stuck on 24 Grand Slam titles.
As for Alcaraz, this means that the 22-year-old has won seven Grand Slam titles already.
