Perth Scorchers won a record-extending sixth BBL at the expense of Sydney Sixers with a thrilling six-wicket win at their home stadium. The Scorchers, who topped the table in the first round of matches, have comfortably been the best side in the tournament.
With this being a final, normal rules arguably go out of the window. The best team doesn’t always win, but Ashton Turner’s men were determined not to make this the case for themselves on this occasion.
This seasons stand out player since joining The Sixers, Steve Smith, was subdued and was only able to score 24 on the grand stage. Of course, Smith is a superb player, who would have hoped some teammates would have backed him up.
Sadly for Sydney, no player would score higher than 24. Moises Henriques (24) and Josh Philippe (24) would score the same as opener Smith. That meant The Sixers were all out for 133, which off the face of it looked like a low score.
So it proved, but to their credit, the away-side, Sydney Sixers, offered some fight. Although the hosts raced to 80-0, from then on, they didn’t quite have things their own way.
The usually explosive Josh Inglis was able to curb his attacking instincts (29 from 26 balls) and help Scorchers over the line. In fact, it would be a six that helped them seal the win.
