Once upon a time, it was the Red half of Manchester who were on the wave of success. Titles and trophies galore, and the thought of a trophy-less season is seen as a blot in the history book.
Fast forward in time, and it’s now the Blue half of Manchester who have the continuity and it’s Man United who are in disarray. To put things into perspective, it’s been 10 years since City boss Pep Guardiola has been in charge of Man City.
In that time, The Citizens have won everything there is to win. United, on the other hand, although they have won the Europa League, the FA Cup and League Cup, one senses it’s a bit kamikaze at Old Trafford. To prove my point, Ruben Amorim.
It’s amazing how when The Red Devils were under the managerial stewardship of the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson, United were the epitome of a stable club. Sure, they spent money on marquee signings, but there was an element of balancing the books even then.
As I type this, new Manchester United manager, Michael Carric,k who had a short spell as interim manager, takes the reins again until the end of the season. They say in derbies form goes out of the window, but with Pep Guardiola’s side being unbeaten in 13 matches, they will be hard to beat.
For Carrick, as a small part of him can go into this game with no pressure, but at a club like United, you can’t escape pressure. Here’s to hoping for the Manchester Derby being an exciting game.
