Jose Mourinho, known as The Special One, is set to manage Benefica once again, following the sacking of Bruno Lage, the ex-Wolves boss, after a humiliating 3-2 defeat against Azerbaijan club Qarabağ FK. 

Jose Mourinho, who started his managerial career by managing Benefica in the year 2000/2001, made his name when he took Porto FC to win the Primeira Liga and Taça de Portugal, plus the UEFA Cup (now Europa League) in 2002/03 which then followed by a UCL title in the 2003/04 season, ending the notion that clubs need to spend a fortune and should have superstars to win prestigious titles, such as the Champions League. 

After that, who can forget his time at Chelsea, where he not only won trophies but also started the iconic rivalry with Arsenal boss Arsène Wenger. But what really made the world notice The Special One was when he secured another treble with Inter Milan in the year 2009/10. In just 10 years as a manager, Mourinho secured two trebles, a feat that many great managers never achieved in their entire careers, even once. 

Success continued for the Special One as he led Manchester United to win the Europa League in 2016/17 and AS Roma to their first-ever 

European title in the form of the UEFA Conference League in the 2021/22 season. However, things hadn’t gone to plan for Mourinho, who was sacked by AS Roma after two and a half years and by Fenerbahçe after one year, following public criticism of the board amid a bad approach during the transfer window.

Now fate has taken the 62-year-old back to Benefica, where it all started, where he showed the world what he can be. His first assignment will be to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on September 30th, the club he has already managed and won 3 league titles with.
