Tottenham Hotspur continued their good start to the season with goals from Brennan Johnson and Paulinha in a 2-0 win at former Premier League champions Manchester City.

Manager Pep Guardiola had to do without the usual number one Ederson for the second game running. Whereas against Wolves, they were untroubled, against Tottenham, they were harassed and harried and seemed a shadow of the side that a week ago appeared to suggest City are back.

This defeat will come as a concern for the Spaniard Guardiola. His Manchester City side has undergone significant changes since the January transfer window, with several signings.

As disjointed as the hosts were, massive credit goes to Tottenham, who, despite the lack of signings, are putting out a team good enough to be the (joint) top of the table.

There were eyebrows raised when Daniel Levy appointed Thomas Frank to be the new Spurs manager, but so far, so good. The man has got Richarlison in good form for Pete’s sake.

Let’s say this much: he’s making a lot of people’s fantasy football teams. One goal and two assists are good numbers. The former Watford man appears to be happy and playing with a smile on his face.

The North Londoners are top of the table (after two games). If they carry on like this, say it quietly, but Tottenham could be in contention for a title challenge.
