When Tottenham Hotspur announced, or shall I say when the big media outlets announced it, that Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White has all but joined The Lillywhites in a £60 million deal, pending a medical, the powers that be at The City Ground blew their gasket.

To put it lightly. Mr Marinakis and co were routing through the modern-day version of the yellow pages, searching for a lawyer or someone who could help fight off Tottenham.

The Nottingham Forest and Olympiakos have that mafia boss vibe about them, but I am sure they’ve come to a suitable arrangement. I’m not bold enough to put Asterix’s there; you’ve seen their owner – the size of him.

Also, did you see towards the end of last season when he berated Nuno on the pitch? That’s when all things were said. The Pine Trees were doing okay in the League.

Yes, they were on a losing streak, but they still got European qualification. It’s no coincidence that that deal has gone dead in the water. Even a hard negotiator like Daniel Levy decided to step away from a negotiation.

Plenty have left the negotiation table with Mr Levy, but Mr Levy has never left the table before anyone else. Since these shenanigans, Morgan Gibbs-White has posed with the Nottingham Forest owner to confirm he’s agreed a new contract.

Contracts, though, aren’t usually worth the paper they’re signed on. So the question is, will a club offer more than £60 million next time round? Because if they do, surely not even Nottingham Forest would stand in their way.
