Pinch yourself – no, you’re not reading this wrong. Manchester United have had a £65 million bid for Brentford attacker Bryan Mbuemo accepted by Brentford. This deal has been in the works for a long time. 

After signing Mattheus Cunha in impressively quick time, the signing of Mbuemo took the length of the Club World Cup and longer. Those who were part of the deal will say, at least it’s completed now. 

The Red Devils now surely need to be focusing on player sales. Ruben Amorim badly needs a forward, an out-and-out goal getter. 

With Alexander Isak being too expensive and not looking likely to move now due to his extended contract with Newcastle, the chance to sign Eintracht Frankfurt’s number nine, Hugo Ekitike, was there. 

Manchester United, being true to their old selves, dithered so much with the Mbuemo deal that they appear to have lost out on signing the 22-year-old French striker. Liverpool are in advance with their target. Very rarely do Liverpool miss out on a player they have set their sights on.

The last player I remember is Aurelien Tchouameni. In case you say Moises Caicedo or Lavia, I would argue that The Reds walked away from both deals. 

Bryan Mbuemo’s prolonged transfer to Man United sees the Cameroonian international become the third summer signing, alongside Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon.
