Hello, and good evening, sports fans. I hope you’re well, looking after yourselves, and are in good health. We need to talk about the goings-on at Sheffield United. In short, it’s diabolical, to be fair.

Chris Wilder, who came agonisingly close to helping The Blades get promoted in his second spell with the club, has parted ways with his beloved United. Wilder, 57, rejoined the club after replacing former boss Paul Heckingbottom.

Formerly of Northampton and Oxford, Wilder got the chance, the big shot, to manage his believed Blades to promotion glory.

The following season in the Premier League saw a ninth-place finish and plenty of plaudits. Sadly, the manager and club couldn’t repeat the feat a second time.

Relegation followed, and a full season awaited Chris Wilder, who had the chance to repeat the feat he had done in his first spell and get Sheffield United promoted. For significant periods of the season, that seemed like a formality, but sadly for the club and manager, their form fell off a cliff when they needed it most.

After being brilliant for large parts of the season and guaranteeing promotion, Sheffield United fell out of automatic promotion contention with so little of the season left.

After dropping into the play-offs, the play-off semi-final saw them sweep Bristol City aside but cruelly fall short to Sunderland. The disappointment has gone further than the fans, as the Yorkshire side’s board room has agreed to mutually part with Chris Wilder again for a second time.

Now, I am the President of the Wilder fan club association, but the man needs some flowers and the chance to earn some goodwill credit. Replacing him with Ruben Selles is a joke. I have been so worked up about his departure that I mentioned who is Wilder’s replacement.

The former Southampton manager’s record isn’t terrible, but it’s not excellent either. In some weird way, this reminds me of what is happening at Tottenham. A big club with ambitions but tremendous respect struggles to show it with a poor manager’s appointment.
