Arsenal are close to completing the signing of Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi. The Spaniard, 26, is seen as one of the best players in the position in the world, alongside Manchester City’s Rodri. 

Of course, Zubimendi came on to replace the injured Rodri in the Euro 2024 final. Much to the surprise of onlookers, the Sociedad man took centre stage in Germany and helped keep England at bay. 

Arsenal fans should be excited, right? If I were an Arsenal fan, I would be, but I would also be curious as to when a striker will enter the building. Gyokeres and Sesko have been mentioned, so we must see what happens there. 

As good a player as he has been as a makeshift, Mikel Merino is no striker. He was signed and seen as something like a holding midfielder or a defensive midfielder. 

Merino hasn’t been that player, neither has Declan Rice; both players are suited as more rounded midfielders and box-to-box players. With the signing of Martin Zubimendi, for Arsenal’s sake, we will hope it’s right. 

How many midfielders can they keep buying? Worry not, Arsenal fans; Martin Zubimendi seems like the real deal, Mikel Arteta; just please don’t put this fella up front!
