Desire Doue’s two goals, along with Achraf Hakimi Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Senny Mayulu’s strikes, helped the French champions win their first Champions League crown at Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena as PSG beat Inter Milan 5-0.
Going into this game, Luis Enrique’s side were heavily fancied to end their trophy duck in Europe’s biggest club competition. In their last final, which was in the Covid era, the Parisians were cautious against a Bayern team that could have been beaten on the day.
In this final, however, former Barca manager Enrique got his side fired up for the game, and to their credit, they started the game superbly. Inter Milan, who tend to be press-resistant from the off, didn’t look themselves.
Usually, the Neazzuri can counter the press by stretching the opposition, but rather strangely, Inter were pinned in their own half and repelling PSG, attack after attack.
The Parisians taking the lead was only a matter of time, and through Achraf Hakimi, the inevitable happened. From the neutral point of view, sadly, that goal didn’t spring Inter Milan to life. Instead, it saw the Italian side completely crumble.
On the night Paris Saint Germain laid on a brutal assault, as it finished 5-0, to put things into perspective, the scoreline could have been of a worse reading for Simone Inzaghi’s Inter.
Francesco Di Marco, usually a player Inter Milan could rely on, had a night to forget, as did their goalkeeper, the usually superb Yann Sommer. It’s going to be a big summer for Inter Milan.
The Italians have an ageing squad and will need to address this issue. If reports are to be believed, their brilliant manager, Simone Inzaghi, is on the move. Saudi champions Al-Hilal have the former Lazio manager in their sights for becoming their new manager.
As for PSG, this is their best moment in recent history, since being taken over by the Qatari’s in 2011.
Not only did they win the Ligue 1 and the Champions League, they cleaned up house in the domestic trophy scene. PSG have won all that there is to win and have ended the season with quadruple.
Not bad for a side that’s supposedly in the farmers league.
