The age old saying, if it isn’t broke don’t fix it. How wonderful a saying this is. In the world of football, some football clubs and managers, should take heed of such words.
Arsenal and Manchester United, who were the two dominant teams of the 90’s have been paying the price for changing a winning formula. Although The Gunners are closer than The Red Devils, in terms of seeing a return to the good times.
If it isn’t broke don’t fix it! After the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, his successor David Moyes arguably should have adopted that mantra, but to counter that he would have been damned if he did and damned if he didn’t.
The Everton manager tried to make his mark at Man United, but such was the infrastructure at Old Trafford, that such changes if made too quickly would disrupt a winning set-up in record time.
Unai Emery when at Arsenal, was a replacement for Wenger and to be fair to the Spaniard didn’t do terribly, but the North Londoners were in the middle of change, a change from one of their most successful ever managers in their history.
One would think changing a successful manager, one to another is hard, but that hasn’t been the case for Liverpool. Last year, they saw Jurgen Klopp leave the club, after a near-decade in charge of the Anfield side.
Arne Slot was the man tasked with replacing Klopp. On the face of it, it seemed the former Feyenoord manager had one of the most challenging jobs in Europe, but to his credit Slot took to the challenge like a duck does water and impressively helped The Reds to 20 Premier League 20 titles, which draws them level with the old enemy Man United, who also have 20 League titles.
To the Dutchman’s credit, he’s quietly gone about his business and that has yielded the biggest prize for the Liverpool fans. Leeds United, your board seems ‘fidgety’, please don’t remove Daniel Farke, he’s a good manager and the worst thing to have in life is regret.
