If this were any other club in world football, his achievements this season would have ensured he was in charge for next season, but this isn’t any other manager or team; this is a five-time Champions League winning manager, Carlo Ancelotti, manager of Spanish Champions Real Madrid. 

Since rejoining the club from Everton, he’s turned Real into a Champions League-winning machine again, like his former assistant Zidane had done a decade earlier when the Frenchman became manager of Los Blancos. 

For their lofty standards, not getting to the latter stages of the Champions League is disappointing, but even the greatest sides have a bit of an off day. Well, in the case of the 14-time Champions, they had an off two matches. 

I do not know many sides that have done the double over Real. Some say this is sometimes the worst side Real Madrid has produced, but that’s very debatable. 

Real Madrid have now recruited Kylian Mbappe. In theory, this should have enabled them to regain the title, but life doesn’t work like this. They will continue to find success, but the hiring and firing of managers need to be controlled. 

Good managers are potentially out there, such as Xabi Alonso at the end of the season and former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp allegedly. Both managers have good calibre, but Don Carlo is the Godfather. 

Change is inevitable one day. That’s fine. All I can say is not just yet. I am not ready to say bye to Uncle Carlo just yet. The former Italian manager, if he is sacked, can count himself hard done by. 

He’s come to Real’s beck and call twice, and it looks like they will repay him like this twice.
