A brilliant performance from Haris Rauf with the ball (5-29) and Saim Ayub (82) with the bat helped Pakistan win the second ODI in Adelaide by nine wickets. Winning the toss, the visiting skipper put the home side, Australia, into bat.

That decision proved to be an excellent one, as the Aussies slipped to 87-4. When Steve Smith was out for 35, Pat Cummins’ side were 101-5. Smith’s knock was the top score for Australia.

To emphasise their struggles, Adam Zampa, who was batting at 10, was their second-highest scorer with 18. Shaheen Afridi (3-26) put the home side out of their misery when Zampa was bowled.

Pakistan was also indebted to Haris Rauf (5-29), who ripped through Australia’s middle order. In reply, Pakistan made light work of the run chase. Openers Saim Ayub (82) and Abdullah Shafique (64), not out, put on 137 for the first wicket.

With his century in sight, arguably, Ayub lost his concentration after he was dismissed 18 short of a maiden ton. That dismissal brought Babar Azam to the crease, who made 15 off 20 balls. The former Pakistan captain won the game for his country with a six.

With Australia winning the first game and Pakistan the second, the three-match series is evenly poised at 1-1. The deciding game will be in Perth on Sunday.
