I think I am going to party like it’s 1999! That’s, of course, the famous lyric from Prince’s hit song. Well, in Nottingham Forest’s case, they’re playing like it’s 1989, the season where they finished in the lofty position of third.
Of course, in that season, the Pine Trees were under the management of the late Brian Clough. This season, they are under the leadership of Nuno Espirito Santo, the former Wolves boss.
To compare the two, just in case you thought I was is like chalk and cheese.
Key to their win this weekend and their successful season so far has been their well-organised defence. Forest have conceded just seven goals all season; only Liverpool (6) have conceded fewer. As impressive as they have been at the back, with players like Murillo impressing, Chris Wood up top has been a man reborn this term.
The New Zealander has scored eight goals, more than Erling Haaland (11). If Forest continues this for a little bit longer, you will be justified in dreaming of some exotic holidays in Europe, if you know what I mean.
