The start of the summer not only seems like a long time ago but one can be forgiven if they question whether we have one here in the UK. Such is the constant flow; the only thing that sticks in the mind is the bad adverse weather.

In the world of football, however, I am sure there were many of you questioning the logic (Chelsea’s) of hiring Leicester’s Championship manager Enzo Maresca and raiding them for Kieran Dewesbury-Hall.

Fast forward a few months, and those who were doubtful and had their concerns so far need not worry. A disappointing defeat to champions Manchester City on the opening day was not an ideal start to the Premier League campaign.

Since that setback, Chelsea deserves immense credit. Noni Madueke has played a vital role in a big win at Wolves (6-2) and the West London side Chelsea sweeping away Brighton 4-2.

That result against The Seagulls was impressive in it’s own right, especially since Brighton have been in relatively good form this term. Now the easiest thing to do, is heap praise on Maresca.

Yes, it’s deserved, but at the boardroom level, Chelsea acted in haste in getting rid of former manager Mauricio Pochettino. The Argentine Pochettino ended last year very strongly to enable his side to get into the European places.

Enzo Maresca does need a huge amount of praise for being the manager who has given Jadon Sancho some confidence going into the new season. Despite the deal being completed towards the end of the window, it has not affected Sancho.

The former Man City and Man United winger has three assists in three games. Jadon Sancho needed a lot of games to numbers like those when he was at Old Trafford.

I will say again that Enzo Maresca has worked wonders with Nicholas Jackson. That’s some difference to last year’s bounce and bounce off his body; the ball would do when he would reach is, The Senegalese forward is not only scoring more, but he’s also assisting more, and Jackson has brought intelligence to his game.

One season working together under their belt has helped them improve for this term.

It’s still early in this season, but the signs appear to be good. The hope now is that Chelsea will stick with this manager. Enzo Maresca deserves some time, but then again, Poch did, too.
