New Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler carried on his fantastic start to life as manager, this time by beating 20-time Premier League champions Manchester United.
Former United striker Danny Welbeck opened the scoring, only for Amad Diallo to bring The Red Devils back on level terms. The home side would have the last laugh as Joao Pedro would score a 95th-minute winner.
A first defeat of the season for United, whose manager Erik Ten Haag will now be under pressure no doubt, even this early in the season. As for The Seagulls, clearly no one has told their manager that the Premier League is the best in the world and it might take time to adapt and get his ideas across.
Early doors, yeah it’s taken ages! Of course, I am being sarcastic. That’s five goals scored, and one conceded for Brighton as they keep Man City company at the top of the table early doors.
Champions City who strolled past Chelsea last time out, comfortably beat Premier League new boys Ipswich 4-1, which included an Erling Haaland hat-trick. That’s four goals in two games for the Norwegian goal machine.
Arsenal, who were Man City’s title rivals all season last season, are the other team with a 100% record. The Gunners in the evening game dispatched bogey side Aston Villa 2-0.
Leandro Trossard and Thomas Partey with the goals. Elsewhere, Tottenham got their first win of the season after thumping Everton 4-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. This defeat for The Toffees compounds their difficult start in the League.
Sean Dyche’s men lost their first two games, conceding seven without scoring. The season is still young and they have an injury list longer than my arm. But there is no doubt about it, it’s not the start Everton would have wanted.
Son Heung-Min grabbed two with rebel Yves Bissouma grabbing one and Cristian Romero the other.
Fulham beat Leicester 2-1 to get their season going, Alex Iwobi got the winner after Leicester Wout Faes equalized for the Foxes. Southampton narrowly lost again this week, this time 1-0 to Nottingham Forest. Morgan Gibbs-White grabbed the winner for the away side.
