Pepe, the former Real Madrid defender, has retired from international football. The 41-year-old who played for Porto, Besiktas and Maritimo amongst other clubs, has made 878 appearances for club and country, winning 34 trophies.
Due to the struggles of Portugal’s national team and their current transitional period, Pepe’s international was naturally going to be a talking point. Now the former Real Madrid man has retired, the scrutiny will intensify on Ronaldo to join suit and retire too.
Bluntly speaking, Portugal are well stocked in the forward areas and the great man will have to hang his boots up one day.
