Aston Villa have re-signed Jaden Philogene, just 12 months after selling him to Championship side Hull. The Tigers were in the process of selling Philogene to Premier League new boys Ipswich for £18 million, but due to a clause in the deal which allowed The Villains to match the bid, Philogene returns to Villa Park.

The 22-year-old will no doubt benefit from the impending departure of Mousa Diaby to Al-Ittihad. Jaden Philogene took the Championship by storm and will be remembered for scoring a ‘Rabona goal’ after a little jink in the penalty area against Rotherham.

Besides that wonder goal, Philogene scored an impressive 12 goals and grabbed six assists. This signing of their former player is a sign of Aston Villa’s shrewd work in the transfer market.

The Villains have spent £140 million in this transfer window. Diaby’s transfer to the Pro League means that Aston Villa are in line with FFP.
