Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz successfully defended his Wimbledon crown with a straight-sets win against seven-time winner Novak Djokovic, winning 6-2,6-2, 7-6 (7-4).

Coming into this tournament, it appeared extremely likely that Novak wouldn’t be able to play at SW19, but against all odds, the second-most successful man in Wimbledon history was able to compete in the tournament.

Much has been made of the 37-year-old’s fitness and form as he gets towards the twilight of his career. Many observers have felt the Serb is getting better with age. Until recently this has been true, but this year Djokovic hasn’t had things all his way.

The former world number one has had to watch as Carlos Alcaraz and new world number one Jannik Sinner with the Grand Slams this year. Many from the overreaction theatre will say this is the end of Novak as we know and he should retire.

As Novak Djokovic has been such a superb champion he should go out on the top when he sees fit. I might be in the minority of one, but he did well to get this far (the Wimbledon final), Novak will be back though.
