Many cricket fans in England, arguably wait for no series quite like they do when 2009 World T20 champions Pakistan come to England. England which is home to many English-born Pakistanis, eagerly waits for the excitement the anticipation a series of this kind brings.
Babar Azam, who has just only recently reclaimed the captaincy, leads a side that is experienced, but is still unpredictable. In his first stint as skipper, the men in green got to the dizzy heights of being world number one in both forms of white-ball cricket.
As impressive as that is, it’s not stopped Babar’s men from the occasional serious blip. The most recent game against Ireland comes to mind. In the end, they overcame Paul Sterling’s Ireland side, but they made hard work out of it.
So across the United Kingdom, they went or shall we say Great Britain, to prepare for a four-game series against the World Cup winners England who beat them in the final.
Both have different teams since then and rather encouragingly for the home side Joffra Archer should feature in some of the matches. It’s been around two-years since Archer has last been able to play somewhere near at tilt, but even that wasn’t for a prolonged time.
Archer’s opposite number Harris Rauf has struggled to overcome injury and will likely sit this series out. The Pakistani team will be hoping it’s not the World Cup too.
Babar Azam’s Pakistan team is well-stocked when it comes to quick bowlers, but none of them are quite like Harris. There’s not much between the two sides, arguably it’s the openers where England have the edge, which could be crucial for the series.
In Mohammed Rizwan and most likely Babar opening, you have one of the greatest partnerships of all time. I say this based on the stats of runs, but this Pakistani duo might need to get slogging from the get-go.
It’s gonna be a fascinating series, which will be too close to call. My heart says Pakistan, my head says England, but what do you think?
