England’s leading wicket-taker James Anderson has announced he will retire after the first test of the summer against the West Indies. Anderson, 41 is the third-highest wicket-taker of all-time and the highest wicket-taking fast bowler in the history of the game.
Only spin legends Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan have more wickets than the Burnley Express Anderson (700). Lancashire bowler Anderson has yet to decide if he plans to retire from County Cricket. The 41-year-old has appeared to suggest he will look to play in the County Cricket Championship next season.
With Stuart Broad retiring last summer and Anderson set to retire this, England’s fast-bowling department will need to step up. Observers have suggested that The Three Lions look to freshen up the bowling attack.
Jofra Archer who has been named in the England men’s World T20 squad, will be one man in waiting to pick up the ‘torch’. Coach Brendan McCullum and captain Ben Stokes will hope he can put his troublesome injury record of the past two years behind him.
