After one season away from the Premier League, the 2016 Premier League winners have been promoted to the top flight as champions. Enzo Maresca’s men beat Preston 3-0 at Deepdale last night, which helped The Foxes secure the title.
With promotion secured and a few club records broken, Leicester City can become the first side to get promoted twice with 100 points or more. For the sake of milestones such an achievement would be impressive, but surely the aim is to prepare for the Premier League.
A few days of celebration will ensue, if not fewer, then the need to prepare to make sure they don’t drop back down into the championship is a must. Fulham, who were the perennial yo-yo side, appeared to have mastered life in the Premier League.
Other clubs such as Norwich and Burnley have not. In the case of The Clarets, they were sensational under Vincent Kompany in the Championship. When they got promoted to the Premier League, however, they were the polar opposite.
In the second tier Turf Moor was a torturous, a Tuesday evening nightmare, if you know what I mean ;). When they got promoted
Giving it a go is admiral, but The Clarets on several occasions would commit defensive suicide and would ruthlessly get exposed at the highest level. Essentially they had become one of the League’s whipping boys.
They were very good at exploiting the team’s weaknesses in the second tier, but in the Premier League, they were the ones getting exposed. Norwich City when they were promoted as champions made the same mistake.
Leicester when they were last promoted from England’s second tier 10 seasons ago, did so and stayed in the Premier League for 10 seasons. With the likes of Jamie Vardy, James Justin, Kieran Dewsbury-Hall and Wilfred Ndidi amongst other Leicester stalwarts, they should in theory be fine.
