Inter Milan ended a two-year wait to become Italian Serie A champions again. The Neazzuri achieved the feat by beating arch-rivals AC Milan 2-1 at the San Siro, where they were technically the away side.

Inter, under the leadership of Simone Inzaghi, impressively got to the Champions League final last term and have impressively built on that with a 20th Scudetto crown. Juventus (36) only have more than Inter Milan’s 20.

AC Milan were tied on 19 with Inter, but after this latest title win Internazionale are out on their own with 20 Serie A title wins. In the competition’s 116-year history, this was the first time that a match between the two sides would directly affect the title race as it did this evening.

In the past couple of seasons, the winner of Serie A has won the League with something to spare, Inter were the same. Inzaghi’s men won the title with five games to spare.

With 79 goals scored, they were 15 ahead of the next highest, second-placed AC Milan. At the other end, Inter Milan excelled too. The Neazzuri conceded 18 goals, eight fewer than Juventus.

After comprehensively winning the League this year, naturally, the rest of Italy will want to mount more of a challenge to Inter Milan next year.

Nearest challengers AC will want to be one of those sides, but first, they must address this woeful record of having lost their last six games to their Derby Rivals.

The AC Milan team between 1911-13 and from 1946-1948 was able to achieve the feat.
