The question is, does anyone want to win the League? In England’s top flight and second tier, this question can be asked. In the Premier League, fans are arguably witnessing one of the tightest and most closely contested title race in years.
Three-time defending champions Manchester City, who have struggled in parts to hit the dizzy heights of last season, do currently have a two-point lead at the summit, followed by Liverpool and Arsenal.
Before this current week of fixtures, Pep Guardiola’s City were in third, but after The Reds and The Gunners dropped points, like they have done over the years, Man City have ruthlessly exposed them.
Some observers think that now that champions Man City are out in front, they won’t be caught. I can see why some would think this, but in my own humble opinion, this doesn’t look like one of those seasons.
Liverpool will win the League. This feeling of mine, is maybe more fuelled by me being a ‘romantic’. Romantic in the sense that this is Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s last season in charge at the club.
Optimistically, it could be described as, of me wanting the 19-time Premier League champions Liverpool, levelling Man United’s overall record of 20.
Dropping points isn’t something that’s happening to Liverpool, Arsenal and Man City, the top three sides in the Championship, just like their Premier League rivals are too dropping points.
Leicester City, who are managed by former Man City assistant Enzo Maresca, were appearing set to win the Championship title at a canter, have seen their form drop quite dramatically over the last month.
Both they and Ipswich appeared to be the two teams that were set for promotion, with the near minimal of fuss. But with The Foxes and The Tractor Boys enduring stuttering form, it’s allowed a resurgent Leeds United to force this year’s Championship battle into a three-way battle.
At the time of writing Ipswich are top with 89 points, Leicester are second with 88 points and Leeds are one-point further back with 87 points in third. You guys in the higher leagues, why can’t you be like Portsmouth, Stockport, Wrexham, Mansfield and Chesterfield hey?
These guys have secured promotion in a lot less drama free fashion.
