Champions League winners Manchester City calmly disposed of Danish champions FC Copenhagen 3-1 last night and 6-2 on aggregate. Copenhagen were of course responsible for knocking out Man City’s arch-rivals Man United in the group stages.

Despite that impressive achievement, last year’s treble winners Manchester City always seemed like heavy favourites for this. City had to overcome the odd uncomfortable moment, but in the end, they would have too much for FC Copenhagen.

To add gloss to the scoreline, top scorer Erling Haaland grabbed the third goal, to kill off any chances of a dramatic comeback on the night. In the case of Haaland, it’s amazing just how much criticism he is getting, but just like he did on Derby Day, he grabbed a crucial goal for his side.

Next week in the last 16 of the Champions League will see Arsenal trying to overturn a 1-0 goal deficit to Porto, as well as Napoli and Barcelona trying to break through their stalemate. The first leg ended 1-1, as did the game between PSV and BVB.

The last of the games in the round of 16 will see Inter Milan try to preserve a 1-0 lead of Diego Simeone’s Atletico.
