A last-gasp Harry Kane goal for defending champions Bayern Munich has helped keep the title race in the Bundesliga alive for another week at least. When Germany’s top two played each other (Bayer Leverkusen vs Bayern), it was of course Alonso’s Leverkusen who prevailed on the night.

Bayern’s 2024, was summed up in one night, not quite good enough.
Before this three-game winless run that was of course ended last night, the Bavarians were in with a shout of competing in the league, but with Kane’s form taking a nose dive, so did Bayern’s.

I admit, that’s quite a simplistic way of putting it, but it’s no coincidence that the England captain had been in something of a lean patch of late. Of course, it’s too simplistic to solely blame the lack of goals for Bayern Munich’s recent woes.

The defence hasn’t covered themselves in glory as of late, but with Matthijs de Ligt not getting regular game time, it’s no wonder why. The Dutchman is one of the better defenders in the squad.

What should also be mentioned is the continued snubbing of Joshua Kimmich, arguably one of the best in the world at defensive midfield. Yes, there’s been a lack of goals, but there’s also been a lack of continuity too.

Look at Leverkusen for example, all of their goals are getting spread out. Opposite to Bayern, they’re a side who know what they’re doing, they’re well coached. This is why, famous last words, the reason why the title will be surely going to the Bayer Arena.

If Bayer Leverkusen do win that elusive League title, you can bet your life-saving that Bayern Munich will come back twice if not three times as hard.

Maybe, if reports are to be believed, the Bavarians will come back at Bayer Leverkusen, with Leverkusen’s manager (Alonso) in their home dugout at the Allianz Arena.
