As spirited as those performances were, to play well doesn’t always guarantee you the three points, teams like Real Madrid and Barcelona know this only too well. It seems to be a common theme, but Rojiblancos deserve credit for how they battle with 10 men for 37 minutes against Bilbao.

Ernesto Valverde’s side go fifth after that result. If Almeria keeps up their current form, this could be an unwanted record-breaking season (by beating Derby County’s points tally of 11).
