For so many years, the rest of the world had been trying to tell the football society that the world is in recession (credit crunch), the world is in a Covid pandemic. With Covid-19, even football had to make sure it was on its best behaviour.
Football were matches played, but the stadiums were ordered to remain empty as the match was happening. The massive spending on transfer fees, even though people were relying on furlough payments were still going through the roof.
This was happening from season upon season until this current transfer window. In transfer windows gone by, one year was breaking the record from the year before. With today being the last day of the transfer window, the current amount that teams have spent on new players combined is some £50 million.
That includes Brentford’s signing of Antonio Nusa. The Norwegian who has been dubbed the new Neymar, will cost The Bees a fee of £25 million. There haven’t been many other transfer deals of note that have been completed.
We expect there to be a last minute dash, but even then, nothing too dramatic, football club’s can’t afford it. That’s thanks to (Financial Fair Play) FFP. From the clubs at the top, to the clubs at the bottom, all of them are trying to not fall foul of UEFA and FIFA’s spending and sustainability rules.

This year will be entering the history books for sure, the January transfer window of 2024.
